Athlete of the Week: Aleah Chick
For some student athlete's, it's not all about winning a championship. It's about having fun with your friends and learning how to apply the skills from the field to life beyond the diamond.
Starting her senior year in left field, Aleah holds a batting average of an .500 but she wasn't always a starter. She was a pinch hitter and only played half of the games her sophomore year. It took determination and perseverance to get to where she's at today.
"When I was younger, I used to not believe in myself and I wasn't that confident. But you have to have that attack mentality. That's exactly what I do. I go up there, I believe I'm the best hitter in the world, say you can and just attack each pitch."
"She works really hard, she never misses, she's a good student. She's a good kid to have on your team" says Coach Else.
Softball may not be in her future after high school as she excels in the classroom as well. She plans to take everything she's learned playing softball and apply them to everyday life.
"If an Ivy-league school doesn't accept me, you try again. You just got to keep trying. The softball team had definitely told me to never ever give up. That's what I take from the field and onto my academics with school" says Aleah.
