Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) CMU football hosted Eastern New Mexico in their home opener Saturday night. Two redshirt sophomores threw the ball in hopes of bringing home a win.
Just four minutes in and the Greyhounds were on the board first with a field goal. Mavericks, Isaac Salazar made a 66-yard run on a punt return...but it was over shined when the Greyhounds recovered a fumble by the Mavericks Isaac Maestas.
To end the first quarter, Aaron Howard completed a pass to KJ Sapp, with the Mavericks leading 7-3. Greyhounds then took it to the house with a 50-yard throw by quarterback, Wyatt Strand.
Greyhounds stretched their lead, scoring 27 points in the third. The Mavs came back to tie it up in the fourth at 37 apiece. The redshirt sophomore Aaron Howard threw for 188 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Mavericks ultimately lost in overtime, 44-37.
