Mavericks lose another heart-breaking game

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Each team scored just once in the first half. Issac Maestasscored 1 yard TD in the second. It was a slow first half as Western scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. But in the fourth, it turned into a back and forth battle.

Rope Ruel threw an interception giving the Mountaineers a 13-yard touchdown and the lead, 21-14. Aaron Howard returned to the game and it took the Mavs less than two minutes to return the favor with a 52-yard pass from to Dagan Rienks to tie it up. Howard scored a touchdown of his own and the Mavs take the lead, 28-21.

Western came up with a TD of their own, and they missed the field goal, and the Mavs kept the lead, 28 to 27. With just under a minute left, the Mountaineers made the game-winning 29-yard field goal.

Mavericks lost, 30-28. Aaron Howard threw for 223 yards, completing 20 of 31 attempts.
