JUCO World Series: Baseballs get mud bath
The annual baseball mud rub returned as a part of the pre-JUCO festivities.
The game balls are covered in Mississippi mud in order to get worn in before the tournament begins on Saturday. Thirty dozen baseballs received the mud rub treatment.
"You want to get it in every nook and cranny in there, except the laces. You don't want to get it in the laces," said Grand Junction senior Levi Prall.
It's been a JUCO tradition for more than 25 years.
"Baseballs come all new, shiny and white like a new pair of shoes," said Co-Director of Tournament Play Walt Bergman. "You take the shine off and give them a good grip."
The first game of the JUCO between Temple (TX) and Southern Idaho begins at 9 A.M. on Saturday from Suplizio Field.
