Salazar Sends Senate Resignation Notice

By  |

DENVER (AP) _ Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar has turned in his
resignation.

The nominee to lead the department of the interior sent a letter Saturday to senate leaders saying he will resign his senate seat
two years early to join the cabinet of President-Elect Barack
Obama.

Salazar says he expects to be confirmed Tuesday, the same day Obama is inaugurated president.

The Democratic Senator's confirmation hearing before a senate committee last week went smoothly. Salazar indicated the new
administration wants to expand renewable energy on public lands.
Salazar will be replaced by Denver Public Schools Superintendent
Michael Bennet.
