150 take part in local medical marijuana march

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (KKCO)_On Saturday, more than 150 people marched from the Old County Courthouse to the Mesa County Justice Center in an effort to raise awareness about the uses of medical marijuana.

Speakers at the event talked about legislation currently being considered by Colorado legislatures. They say House Bill 1284 and Senate Bill 109 limit the public's access to medical marijuana. They also encouraged everyone to contact their senators and push for the legalization of cannabis.

"The rest of us can name off people that we know that have died from alcohol from prescription drugs, from tobacco and yet those are legal. Those are a freedom of choice and so should marijuana be," one marcher told 11News.

While many people at the march were licensed medical marijuana card holders, organizers say they encouraged people not to smoke in public.
