GRAND JUNCTION, Colo A former Grand Junction mayor will appear in court after he was caught stealing candy from a Mesa Mall store Friday.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department, two-time Grand Junction mayor and city councilman Reford Theobold was observed hiding several "Big Hunk" candy bars in a file folder before exiting Cabela's.

Police say he then proceeded to pass all points of sale without any motion to pay for the goods.

Police say 2 maps were also found on Theobold that were unpaid for.

The court summons document states 61-year-old Theobold did not dispute any of the allegations and added he was embarrassed and acted "stupid."

He will appear in court for the shoplifting charges December 29th.
