Girl Scout cookie season begins

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The most anticipated time of the year for Girl Scouts is finally here - Girl Scout cookies are now on sale.

The Fruita Girl Scout Troop hosted a drive through cookie booth outside of Walgreen's Sunday hoping to raise money to go on a camping trip together. They are one of few troops that have started accepting credit cards this year.

The money raised also goes towards badges, uniforms for scouts that have a hard time affording them, annual dues, and other outdoor activities like riding horses and hiking.

“I love being in girl scouts because it’s fun and we get to do lots of activities!” said Faith Lovoi.

Customers have the chance to purchase a box of cookies to donate to who the girl scouts see as their heroes. The Fruita troop has chosen the Fruita Police and Fruita Fire Departments this year. The 2015 goal for Girl Scouts of Colorado is to donate 200,000 boxes to hometown heroes.
