GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - An organization that gives leadership opportunities to young girls had it's 100th birthday Monday.

To celebrate, the Girl Scouts named 100 girls here in Colorado as leaders of tomorrow. The honor is called Generation Wow!, given to the Girl Scouts who exhibited high levels of volunteer achievement and made significant contributions to the community.

Eleven girls from the Western Slope were recognized in a special presentation at City Hall Monday.

One of the winners said that leadership has been the most important quality she's learned in the scouts.

"Through the whole thing you do have to demonstrate very high leadership skills, which will also travel over to your future career and college education," said Jessica Hull, from Montrose, who has been a Girl Scout for ten years.

Girls between the ages of five and 18 were recognized by Generation Wow! Each one participated in a service learning project, learning teamwork and leadership skills.
