The grand junction regional airport has been a hot spot for BLM air tankers to prepare to fight the Pine Gulch and Grizzly Creek fires. The fire bombers use the airport to land, reload with fire retardant and aviation fuel.
Monday evening, fire crews with the Clifton Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire at 3272 F Road. One person, an adult female, and a cat died in the fire. Three people evacuated safely.
The family’s grateful for the firefighting team’s efforts in keeping their homes safe, "very heartwarming to see when they came through here, but they—they managed to clear and incredible amount of growth around those structures in a very short time."
Crime Stoppers of Mesa County is asking for the public’s help to identify the person(s) who broke into an Arrowhead Interagency Hotshot Dodge Ram 5500 Truck, stealing government radios, tools, backpacks, gas cans and torch canisters.
Rio Grande Avenue in Montrose will be closed from Aug. 10 to Aug. 11, as crews begin work on the Montrose Recreation District. All traffic at Riverbottom Drive will be closed and a detour will be in place around the area. Apollo Road will remain open.
